Julien L’Enfant: Using AI as a Reflective Coach in Practicum Courses

In this webinar, we’ll explore insights from my recently published paper, AI as a Reflective Coach in Graduate ESL Practicum: Activity Theory Insights into Student-Teacher Development in the European Journal of Open, Distance and E-Learning. We’ll discuss how generative AI (GAI), like ChatGPT, can transform reflective practices in ESL graduate practicum courses and teacher professional development more broadly.

We’ll look at how GAI provides structured, personalised anytime feedback, making it easier for student-teachers to improve their skills and for supervisors to track progress. Despite the varied backgrounds and practicum teaching contexts, GAI has shown great potential in enhancing teaching and learning experiences.

In this session, we’ll discuss practical takeaways from the research and updates from my own graduate practicum courses highlighting the benefits for both student-teachers and supervisors. We’ll also touch on future research directions that further explore the potential benefits of using AI as a reflective coach.

I will share examples, demonstrations of the AI in action as a reflective coach, and student-teacher feedback. This webinar will give you practical insights into integrating GAI into teacher education to boost reflective practices with the aim of improving teaching quality.
