Welcoming Robert Martinez to the Eaquals Board of Trustees

With Robert Martinez joining the Eaquals Board of Trustees, we thought it was the perfect time to get to know the person behind the name. Many in the Eaquals network already know Robert as an inspector, teacher trainer, or presenter — but there’s more to him than his professional titles.

In his own words, he’s someone who values empathy, kindness, and quality education — all things that make him a natural fit for Eaquals. And with his new role on the board, we’re excited for the fresh energy and insight he brings.

Meet Robert: The Educator Behind the Experience

Robert has been part of the ELT world since 1994 and has worked in a wide range of roles across the globe — from Colombia to Egypt, Vietnam to Bulgaria, Canada and beyond. Every experience has shaped his perspective on what great teaching and learning look like in different contexts.

He speaks Spanish and Italian fluently, and has working knowledge of French and Portuguese — enough to get by when he’s travelling or connecting with colleagues.

He’s also a CELTA tutor and assessor, a language assessment specialist for IELTS and Cambridge English, and a longtime Eaquals and IHWO inspector. Beyond that, he’s developed training programmes, mentored teachers, and designed digital learning tools — always with a focus on helping educators grow.

Why Eaquals? Why Now?

When asked what motivated him to join the Board of Trustees, Robert shared that it felt like the right time to contribute in a new way.

“Being part of the Eaquals network as an inspector has helped me grow professionally and personally,” he said. “Joining the board is a chance to give back to an organization that reflects my values and has meant so much to my development.”

Robert is especially passionate about the idea that education is built on connection — between teachers, learners, schools, and cultures.

What He Brings (Besides Experience and Curiosity)

Robert’s professional background is broad — spanning teaching, training, academic management, digital design, and assessment — but what stands out most is his natural curiosity and openness to change.

He’s known for his practical, clear approach to both in-person and online training, and for bringing warmth and clarity to whatever room (or Zoom) he’s in. Whether it’s conducting inspections, leading workshops, or testing out the latest tech in education, he brings a thoughtful, people-first mindset.

He’s also not afraid to explore big changes in the sector — even when they move fast and feel a bit unpredictable (hello, AI).

What’s Next with Robert on Board

With Robert now part of the Board of Trustees, we’re excited to continue building on the strength of our community — bringing in new ideas while staying grounded in what matters: meaningful, high-quality, and human-centred language education.

His experience, insight, and collaborative approach make him a valuable addition to the board, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead.
